I Came to Church and Someone Cared.

by Reba Collins

"I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of our Lord." King David

Don’t you wish all your members echoed King David’s sentiments? Because if they did, then someone would care when visitors like me come to your church. You’d know that your visitors would meet someone who loves to be the church for people who need the church.

This week, my friend Linda reflected upon her personal gladness about being in God’s house. On Facebook, she wrote:

Me, I just plain love church. I love the different denominations. I love the different doctrines. And I love the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus loves church, too. He loves it when we get together as a big bunch and worship him together joyfully, tearfully, thankfully. He loves it when we hear amazing teaching and grow spiritually from the word of God. He likes it when we pray together for the needs of people, and he loves to meet their needs.

He likes the short people, tall people, fat people, skinny people, stinky people, attractive people, poor people, rich people and all the people.

He likes it when the little kids can come in to church and find breakfast on Sunday morning and a place where people love them. He loves it when the body of Christ sacrifices to give those kids Christmas presents and clothing. I'm sure he really likes it when they learn the 10 Commandments.
He loves it when the rich people get together and have big concerts and sponsor children from around the world who would not have families if they all stayed home.

I could go on and on, but I just want to say, “I love church!”

If you haven't tried it for a long time, give it a try because I bet you will like it too.

I don't know of any personal friends who have ever said they were really sorry that they have gone to church, but I know a lot of folks who have loved it.

I just plain like church
.

Linda worships and leads at a different church than I do. When I visited her house of worship for the first time, everyone I met seemed glad to be there and seemed glad that I was there.  They cared, and new friendships were made, including Linda’s.

Is Linda’s joy one-of-a-kind? No, though Linda certainly is! There are thousands of Lindas in thousands of churches waiting to share their joy of being the church and seeing the church care for others. I’ve visited enough churches to know.

From William’s blog last week, we know that not every church welcomes visitors effectively. Don’t be that church.

Somewhere in your church, there are some Lindas just waiting to be unleashed. Find your Lindas who love the church – who love your church – and help them share it with your visitors in a caring, joy-filled way.
